I’ve got to agree with your top three. Though they do target slightly different needs, you really can’t go wrong with drupal, wordpress, or joomla. Why? Well, from http://www.dynamicalsoftware.com/open/source/corporate/site you can see that it’s all about fostering a strong developer community. With such a large number of freely available themes and modules, you are bound to find a pretty close fit to what you are looking for.

Can’t agree enough, these are definitely the best business content management systems for 2009. Where I love WordPress for its simplicity and ease of use, I love Expression Engine’s dynamic capabilities. I also like Joomla at the number 2. A very good list of top 10 content management systems.

Good List! I appreciate your inclusion of a couple companies that deal with custom CMS solutions. This is a nice coincidence because I’ve ran into the blue guys name a few times this month.

Thankyou Sarah,
Glad to know you found this list helpful. I guess you are talking about Blue Modus. Actually, trends show that new small businesses and startup businesses are heading their way to customized CMS solutions. WordPress is good for setting up blogs to share content, however, custom content management systems offer a lot more options and interactivity. WordPress has its limits, whereas, webmasters can do almost anything with custom content management system packages. I prefer Expression Engine because it offers a lot more than just a blog. Perfect CMS for small business and startup business.

Nancy Weber:

I’m an all time fan of Expression Engine. I would like to move Expression Engine up to number one position, it is simply the best! The reason I love EE content management system is that it provides lots of flexibility and options. If we do the comparison WordPress vs Expression Engine then EE will stand out because you can have a complete website AND a blog, all giving the same look and feel within the same Administration area. We are using EE for our business websites and always recommend our clients to go with EE because you will never have to look back to search a better content management system. I give expression engine a 10 out of 10 score!
Nancy Weber.

I stand with expression engine being the best content management system for business and enterprise websites. If you are looking for more than just a blogging software, go with expression engine.
Let’s admit that there are millions of blogs and websites out there but only the best get users. Today competition is so strong that if you wish to do some serious business online, you need to think about something better that offers a lot of interactivity and communication to your web users. Expression Engine does all that you may ever need to run a business website successfully. Try it and you will know the difference.

Jonathan:

There are many content management systems out there, some free and some paid. But the market is ruled by Expression Engine and Interspire. I’m glad, both are on this list at a remarkable position. There are a few things you should keep in mind while selecting a content management system for your business:

WORDPRESS: I have used WordPress in past but found that it can’t be used for a serious small business website. You may use it as a personal blogging software or portfolio blogs, but you can’t setup an ecommerce business based on WordPress.

EXPRESSION ENGINE: Expression Engine can be used for any purpose, be it an ecommerce website, small business website or even a high quality blog. If you are investing a lot of brain and energy in your business, what is $150 for a good content management system? It is simply nothing. Expression Engine can do a lot for you, a lot more than just blogging software. Look at the add-ons list .. Setup image galleries of your products, sell products using Paypal which can be easily integrated in EE, Enable Wiki on your portal to distribute product information, Membership options, Mailing list subscription integration and there are a lot of other things that are simply mind blowing. Can WordPress do all that? I agree that Expression Engine should take the first position in your list.

INTERSPIRE: Interspire offers excellent shopping cart software and virtual shopping mall software. Combine it with other CMS and you have the best software on hand to count on your ROI. Interspire’s Email marketing software takes your ROI to even higher level. You really have to try these software to dig their true potential and someone who has tried these software, can give you a better insight. I have tried most of them and I think this list needs amendments.

JOOMLA: Joomla is considerably good content management systems. Why? Simply because it is a lot more than just a regular blog on the web. With Joomla, you can integrate lots of add-ons and setup a complete website with a separate section for your business blog. But there are a few complications when it comes to extending your website with add-ons. You have to be an expert at what you do. You need to fully understand this software, otherwise, you will simply burn your energy and brains.

I can keep going on and on describing content management systems because I deal with different CMS every day. But never been happier, until I got the hang of Expression Engine which is the TOP content management system.

This is a great list of CMS plus explanations – thanks for sharing. I’m curious to know which one would you recommend for a small business who plans on doing lots of online marketing campaigns – creating many landing pages, contact forms, call to action, and mini websites pages for marketing campaigns?

mclark:

Hello Calvin,
Thanks for the kind words. I have researched enough on WordPress, Expression Engine, Interspire, Joomla, Drupal, XSitepro and many other CMS. I haven’t found any CMS better than Expression Engine. IMO the only one that comes close to EE is Interspire. Definitely, I would recommend Expression Engine and Interspire for Business of any size.
