There are certain factors to consider while choosing a web hosting service. I will consider quality over cost because there is little difference in the costs. One web host may offer the same service for $5 a month, whereas, other may offer the same service for $6 a month. If we talk about VPS hosting or Dedicated hosting, the difference will be something like: One web host may offer VPS hosting for $20 a month and other host may offer same service at $30 a month. But all that should come after understanding the factors like .. Type of hardware (RAM, Bandwidth, Hosting Space, etc.).

For example, we signed up dedicated virtual hosting for one of our new websites at MediaTemple at $50 a month. We considered factors like RAM, Bandwidth, etc. Everything looked great. But when we hosted our website on Mediatemple, the website was taking over 15 seconds to load. So, we had to look for a new host. We signed up with AvaHost VPS hosting which costs the same $50 a month with same sort of hardware. The same website is loading in 3 seconds. So that is considerably huge difference in the performance.

There are a lot of things that you have to consider while signing up with a web hosting service. What you should be looking at:

Hosting type (Shared, VPS, Dedicated).
Hardware (RAM, Burst Memory, Data transfer per month, Disk space, etc.).
Cost per month/year.
