Action movies have always been my favorite movies of all times. This list of top ten action movies 2009 is to highlight the best action movies in the year 2009. Whenever I hear about new upcoming action movies I just can’t wait for them to release. I have purchased over 50 action movies this year so far but have loved only these 10 movies. I really enjoyed these movies and love to share my experience watching these movies. Have you seen any of these titles? If yes, please share your reviews with others and tell us what you think about these titles.

1 X-Men Origins: Wolverine

X-Men Origins: WolverinetrackStarring: Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber

Director: Gavin Hood

Description: The movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine is another epic from director Gavin Hood, starring the famous Hugh Jackman. Movie is full of spirit and energy, Logan (Hugh Jackman) has once again played an important role with full emotional bandwidth. Logan has been all-time high on energy in this movie which fills the movie with action. Not only the act by Hugh Jackman, director has filled the movie with great background music. The music and action that is injected in the movie, takes it to a higher level of entertainment. The music combines the base primal urges with aspirational tones, much like the character Logan (Hugh Jackman) himself. The movie earns a WoW for great story, great characters, great music and the best action in the line of X-men movies.

2 Watchmen

WatchmentrackStarring: Jackie Earle Haley, Patrick Wilson, Carla Gugino, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup

Director: Zack Snyder

Description: The movies takes you back to the mid of 1980s when all the world’s superheros were forced to retire and are put on alert when a masked hero with a checkered past, puts the superhero community on alert. Zack Snyder (director) has served up something entirely fresh and quite dazzling with this action packed movie. The movie has already gained lots of popularity in the movies world and among viewers who love superhero movies, fistfuls of action and spectacular special effects. Watchmen is no ordinary superhero movie and likely to manage the difficult feat of satisfying both the fan-boys and the uninitiated punters.

3 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers: Revenge of the FallentrackStarring: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox

Director: Michael Bay

Description: Action! Strong, fast, ultimate, action! The movie, as you know, is power packed with fast action from the Alien robots that can take the shape of literally anything machine they see. It is more fun to watch these robots taking shape of sports cars. Ultimate, breath-taking, mind blowing action directed by Michael Bay. After the great success of Transformers 1st part, this sequel took all of the extreme elements that made fans love the first movie and increased them exponentially. The action is just nonstop, with battles, special arms and ammunition and explosions from start of the movie to finish.

4 Crank 2: High Voltage

Crank 2: High VoltagetrackStarring: Jason Statham, Amy Smart

Director: Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor

Description: After the great success of Crank 1st part, the Crank 2 recognizes the shortcomings of the original and uses them to its advantage, making it more fun to watch this action filled movie. Anything that you expect in an action movie, you will find it in Crank 2. Shaky camera, video game effects, lots of fast cuts, unrealistic, hyper-stylized, implausibly frenetic chaos and unintentional humor, all of that describes High Voltage perfectly.

5 Angels & Demons

Angels & DemonstrackStarring: Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, Ayelet Zurer, Stellan Skarsgård, Pierfrancesco Favino

Director: Ron Howard

Description: If you loved watching the movie The Da Vinci Code, you will definitely love this great epic filled with angels and demons. Tom Hanks (Robert Langdon) reprises his role as the renowned symbolist in a race against time to follow clues and solve riddles to prevent a catastrophe from happening. Although you don’t really have to see The Da Vinci Code to understand the movie, in fact, it is even better. Director Ron Howard has packed Angels & Demons with endless action to keep you interested through out the movie.

6 Fast & Furious

Fast & FurioustrackStarring: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, John Ortiz

Director: Justin Lin

Description: Vin Diesel and Paul Walker re-team with Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster for the ultimate chapter of the franchise built on wheels and speed! With great amount of success from the first Fast and Furious, this Fast and Furious (also known as Fast and Furious 4) is power packed with lots of car-action. 7 Race To Witch Mountain

Race To Witch MountaintrackStarring: Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, AnnaSophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig, Ted Hartley

Director: Andy Fickman

Description: Like most of Walt Disney movies, Race To Witch Mountain is not only an action movie, but also it is full of adventure. Loosely based on Alexander Key’s novel Escape to Witch Mountain, Race to Witch Mountain is not so much a remake of the 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain as an entirely new film based on some key plot points from the former film. Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) plays the role of a cab driver and helps couple of teens who claim to be from another world and are helping save the world from aliens. Over all, the movie is a lot of fun watching Dwayne Johnson’s (The Rock) action with teens.

8 The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3trackStarring: Denzel Washington, John Travolta, Luis Guzmán, Victor Gojcaj, John Turturro

Armed men hijack a New York City subway train, holding the passengers hostage in return for a ransom, and turning an ordinary day’s work for dispatcher Walter Garber into a face-off with the mastermind behind the crime. The movie is fun and full of action that you would love to watch and will walk off with a smile on your face by the end.

9 Prison Break: The Final Break

Prison Break: The Final BreaktrackStarring: Dominic Purcell, Wentworth Miller, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Jodi Lyn O’Keefe

Description: Prison Break: The Final Break is definitely a movie for the die-hard fans who love action with strong pinch of thriller. Directors have filled this movie with lots of action, thriller, drama and more. The downside is that this movie is not a stand-alone movie. To understand the movie, you have to see the previous versions. But if you see all the videos in the Prison Break family, you are going to enjoy all the 4 movies. The Final Break covers up all the previous Prison Break movies in its line and it is a final hurray for 4-season long show. This movie is a “must watch” action movie.

10 Inglourious Basterds

Inglourious BasterdstrackStarring: Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger.

The movie is already in buzz because of its great characters, dialogues, action, direction and more. It is being said that the movie will make its way through to the Oscar Awards. The film is rich with interesting dialogue, Perfect timed comedy with a dash of brutal assassination. Apart from all the popularity, the only reason we have listed this movie on number 10 is that the movie has some disturbing scenes of violence that happened in the World War II. Be warned, the movie may not be appropriate of you if you don’t like war violence.
