As we launched our new business website, we thought of using a web analytics that’s best for business websites. I researched a number of websites to find some of these best web analytics services and websites. If you are new to the online business and wondering what is web analytics software or service, you can refer to this guide. Since I’m new to the online world, I was wondering what the heck is it. I searched on various search engines like Google, searched on Yahoo, searched on Bing but wasn’t satisfied with the information I found. Gathering information and preparing a report of the best web analytics services was a little tough for someone like me who is new to the internet. Finally, I found some great information at Avinash Kaushik’s web analytics blog.
Web analytics is a medium to track user activity on your website and turn web visitors into customers by regularly optimizing your website with the help of web statistics and reports. Web analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of internet data for purposes of understanding and optimizing web usage.
If you are really curious to know what web analytics can do for your business, there is a lot of information on Avinash’s website and you could perhaps spend days going through all the information. However, I have summarized everything and also, added some of my notes to the reports below. The report below will help you understand which web analytics are best for business websites and for enterprises. Also, with the web analytics comparison report, you will understand the basic difference between various analytics services.
Web Analytics can be categorized into these two main sub-categories:
- On-site Web Analytics
- Off-site Web Analytics

On-site Web Analytics
As a webmaster, you install a web analytics code which will track all the user activity on your business website and then you can analyze all that data to increase performance of your website. When you install the web analytics code on your own website, it is termed as on-site web analytics.
Off-site Web Analytics
If you are a manufacturer and manufacture a product, you can check the popularity of your product on social networking sites and other websites on the internet. Tracking the performance and popularity of your product or service, regardless off whether you own a business website or not, is termed as off-site web analytics.
Features of a good Web Analytics
Before you sign up for a business web analytics service, it is very important to know the pros and cons of the service. You should know what features can be helpful in converting your website visitors to customers. In layman language, some of the features you should be looking for are: visitor behavior analytics, campaign conversion analytics and marketing efforts analytics. If I were asked to describe these features in details, it would take a lot of time for me to gather all the information and publish it. So, to cut it short, I will simply provide a summary. Behavior analytics would be helpful in understanding the visitor’s behavior on your business website. The conversion analytics can be really helpful in understanding how well is your web traffic converting to customers. The marketing analytics can help you in understanding how good your marketing campaigns are performing over the internet. All these analytics, statistics and reports together form a lot of raw data which needs to be compiled in to smaller reports. This is the function of a web analytics service, it converts all the raw data into meaningful reports that can be used to maximize the performance of your web efforts to gain an edge over your competitors.

Once we understand what web analytics are used for, we can move over to the most important part. Which web analytics service is the best? I like Google Analytics too but it is not the best. Also, I don’t wish to let Google handle my site statistics. Nope, don’t wish to give them all the information so easily.
